Today I visited woolwich and had a bit of a walk around to try and select a specific site. The site I selected was General Gordon Square. Usually when I go to Woolwich I use the town centre as a through route never really stopping to experience the town, however today I saw Woolwich and in particular my site in a totally previous light. Before the regeneration of the space General Gordon Square was a place I would class as out of bounds due to my perceived conception of enclosure as well as being told the area was unsafe due to a series of sinister events, however the regeneration of the Square has totally changed my perception. This supposedly cordoned area now has the feel of the community centre, I watched as people sat down on the landscaped stairs arranged in a rake like fashion to eat, chat and to watch the large television screen that was used to show Olympic events. A total transformation of the space.
In terms of video on Friday I was planning on using a multi-screen set-up to carry through the setup of my first video combined with a series of collaged elements inspired by questioning the local community, although since my visit to site I'm considering setting up a continuous pan shot to combine the collaged elements although if I created the space in 2.5d I'll probably have to create a mask in order to hide the layered images during the movement. Not really sure if to combine both ideas or just to run with one or the other?
Anyway here are a few pictures taken on site as well as a test of the panning shot. I've found I'll have to play around with the amount of movement and time in order to make sure the pan movement stays smooth.
